Entry Requirements |
Applicants must possess the following before being admitted to the course:-
- A recognised degree (priority is given to candidates with good degrees in core subjects).
- Where applicants do not have a good degree, credit will be given for good passes at GCSe and A Level (or equivalent) qualifications.
- A genuine understanding of the Early Years Curriculum and of the particular learning needs of young children.
- Evidence of experience of working with, and knowledge and understanding of the needs of, young children in relation to the Early Years Foundation Scheme and National Curriculum. Normally this would be a minimum of 3 weeks school/nursery experience covering Foundation Stage 1, Foundation Stage 2 and Key Stage 1, undertaken within the past 2 years.
- A good level of written and oral communication skills. Evidence of successful completion of English, Maths and Science GCSE (grade C or above).
- A professional reference, usually from a Head teacher or other professional qualified to comment on your suitability as a teacher.
- All candidates must be physically and mentally fit to teach young children.
- Evidence that you are fit to teach young people, and are not legally debarred from so doing. (Please note, a criminal record does not automatically debar you from a place on the course).
- In addition to enhanced CRB Disclosures as of July 2010 all successful candidates will be subject to new Independant Safeguarding Authority (ISA) regulations.
Applications are welcomed from all candidates irrespective of race, colour, nationality, national or ethnic origins, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, disability or religious beliefs, in accordance with the SCITT’s Equality & Diversity Policies.
Under the terms of our validation from the TDA and under DCSF guidelines, we give priority in allocating places on the course to:-
- Good honours graduates (class 2:1 or 1).
- Graduates in National Curriculum subjects.
- Locally based applicants, especially mature students and those who have a need to stay in the local area.
- Applicants from under-represented groups.
* Where applicants do not possess GCSE grades as required, we would need documentary evidence to prove that they are intending to achieve such a pass, before we could issue a conditional offer.
